AES (Advanced Encryption Standard)

AES (Advanced Encryption Standard) – a symmetrical algorithm of block encryption. Also known as Rijndael. The size of a block is 128 bit (16 byte). The size of the key - 128/192/256 bit (16, 24, 32 byte). Adopted by the US government as an encryption standard by the results of AES contest. The algorithm’s specification was issued by the National Institute of Standards and Technology of the USA on 26 November 2001, and on 26 May 2002 AES was accepted as the encryption standard.

There are versions of the algorithm with the block size of 192 and 256 bit, but they were not included into the (AES) standard under the contest terms.
