Guidelines on increasing IRPStackSize value

1. First you should click the Start button, and then press Run. In the dialogue box shown up enter regedit, and after this press OK.

2. Next you move to the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\LanmanServer\Parameters key.

3. In the right window pane, choose the IRPStackSize value and double-click it.

NOTE: In case the IRPStackSize value does not already exist, the following procedure can help you create it:

  1. Go to the Parameters folder navigating to the key specified in step 2 and right-click the right pane.
  2. Click New in the menu box and choose DWord Value.
  3. Then type IRPStackSize as it is shown here.

IMPORTANT: Typing "IRPStackSize" accurately and strictly the way it appears here is essential due to the case-sensitivity of the name of the value.

4. Switch to the decimal Base.

5. In the Registry Editor box, enter a value larger than the present value.

In case the IRPStackSize value was created by you with the help of the procedure provided in step 4, you should enter the default value of 15. Also, increasing the value by 3 is recommendable. Thus, the previous value being 11, you should put 14 as a new value. Press OK when finished.

6. Now close the editor box and reboot your computer.

If upon your completing the above-described procedure the problem still exists, try further increasing of the IRPStackSize value to larger numbers. Note that 50 (0x32 hex) is the maximum possible value for Windows 2000.
